Fred STrege

At the present time, Fred maintains a general practice with an emphasis on real estate, commercial and banking transactions, and business sales and purchases. Over the years, Fred has handled a wide variety of legal issues for clients. He likes to say that in his first legal life when he was just learning the ropes, he was a family and criminal lawyer. In his second legal life, he was a commercial and civil litigator. Now in his third legal life, he has settled down into a transactional practice mainly focusing on the general business matters and the organization, sale and purchase of businesses and real estate. Along with his transactional practice, he also acts as co-counsel with other members in the firm with respect to all forms of civil litigation (commercial, auto accidents, wrongful death, and general personal injury).

Fred’s clients include banks, businesses, farmers, construction firms, real estate developers, and individuals. He has also acted as an arbitrator to settle and decide disputes for other lawyers.

In 1974, Fred graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.A. in business, graduating summa cum laude. In 1977, he received his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law where he graduated with distinction. Fred began his law practice in Wahpeton with the firm of Johnson, Milloy, Johnson, Stokes, and Robinson. Three years later, Fred partnered with Richard Smith and founded the present Smith & Strege Ltd. firm.

Fred and his wife, Wanda, reside in Wahpeton, North Dakota. They have three daughters, three granddaughters, two cats, many sets of golf clubs, and a TriGlide Harley Davidson motorcycle.
