Fred STrege

Fred practices on a half time basis, primarily from his home office. He maintains a general practice with an emphasis on real estate, commercial transactions, and business sales and purchases. Over the years, Fred has handled a wide variety of legal issues for clients. In his first legal life, he was a family and criminal lawyer. In his second legal life, he was a commercial and civil litigator. Now in his third legal life, he has settled into a transactional practice mainly focusing on general business matters and the organization, sale and purchase of businesses and real estate. Along with his transactional practice, he also acts as co-counsel with other members in the firm.

Fred’s clients include banks, businesses, farmers, construction firms, real estate developers, and individuals. He has also acted as an arbitrator to settle and decide disputes for other lawyers.

In 1974, Fred graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.A. in business, graduating summa cum laude. In 1977, he received his J.D. from the University of North Dakota School of Law where he graduated with distinction. Fred began his law practice in Wahpeton with the firm of Johnson, Milloy, Johnson, Stokes, and Robinson. Three years later, Fred partnered with Richard Smith and they founded the present Smith & Strege law firm.

Fred and his wife, Wanda, reside in Wahpeton, North Dakota. They have three daughters, four granddaughters, five cats, many sets of golf clubs, and the memory of many fine rides throughout the US on Harley Davidson motorcycles.
